Roseacea

Since this is something I struggle with everyday, I thought I would write a post about it. Not many people know what it is or understand the impact it can have on people who suffer from it. 14 million Americans have it and few are getting treatment for it. Roseacea...its a lifelong skin disorder causing flushing, redness and acne like bumps/pimples/pustules and water/itchy eyes. It can be anywhere from mild to extreme, causing disfiguration of the nose and ocular problems (eyes) even loss of vision. It can also cause severe self esteem and physiological problems. There are several theory's about roseacea. 1.) microscopic mites 2.) bacterial infection 3.) vascular disorder. But none of these theory's have been proven and there is no cure for it. The good news is that it can be kept under control with medication and treatments. I am currently using several prescriptions...1 pill twice a day, 1 face wash twice a day, 2 face creams twice a day along with calming wipes, serum and a masque. But it takes even more than that! Most flare ups are caused by triggers. Everyone has different triggers ranging from wine, cheese, bread, spicy foods, sun etc. While I am still learning my triggers; some of them are, temperature change, sun, stress and alcohol. Once you figure out your triggers you can help control it and keep flare ups to a minimum. If anyone has any questions I would love to help you be more informed. And if you think you may have it I would urge you to see a dermatologist right away. Your face can only flare up so many times before you have permanent redness.
