Jacob and his "fort"

I don't have a green thumb at all. I don't mind to garden but I'm not good at it at all. I always joke that I can't even keep a fake plant alive. Here's why...

This is Jacob and his "fort". He insists on knocking the plant over and then lying under it.

I think he uses it to camouflage himself so that the dog doesn't go after him :D

My baby's growing up

By baby I mean dog of course.
We have been testing Kodi lately to see if he is trust worthy enough to be left alone not crated.
He really had to earn our trust because when he was younger he had some major shitting all over the house issues when we weren't home....AKA...seperation anxiety.
So we started off just for an hour while we went grocery shopping and he was fine. Then we worked our way up to five hours...still no problems. Finally yesterday was the big day...we left him free all day while we were at work.
Success!
All three cats are still alive, no pee, no poop and no destruction to the house.
He was so excited when I walked through the door last night like he couldn't wait to tell me how good he was...so I grabbed the camera to take a photo and he smiled for me :D
What a good boy!

Our New Girls

Meet our new girls! We have adopted two young adult girls from a very nice family who had to give them up due to allergies in their little one. Right now the cats are still very scared because of the move, however they are very lovable and are coming around more and more each day.

Our boy cat Jacob is unsure of them - he is trying to make sure that HE is still the ruler of the house by begging for attention whenever we are around. Our hopes are that in a few weeks him and the girls will be playmates.

Our puppy Kodi - well, he just wants to play!

Here are some photos I took of them...

Isis - 3 years old {an ancient Egyptian Goddess of motherhood and fertility}

She is very much lovable, wanting to be pet but not held. She will rub up against your hand and purr but will not come any closer. She has moved up from under the basement steps to underneath our bed where she is staying put! She is really bonding with hubs, I can tell this is going to be his little girl.

Cleopatra - 2 years old {an Egyptian Pharaoh & Goddess of wisdom. Her patron goddess was Isis.}

Cleo for short - this little girl is the most timid, docile cat. I just love her. She is so tiny, you can just pick her up and put her on your lap where she will stay until you move her. She is not bothered by Kodi or Jacob. I think she is a Siamese and tabby mix, possibly the runt. She has a black tail, ears and nose and blue eyes of a Siamese however her body color, size and longer coat look tabby. She has also made her way from the basement to underneath our bed.

Both girls are using the litter box as well.

Hubs and I are so happy to have these two wonderful additions in our house and in time I think they will be happy too...

Kodi turns 1 today!

We took Kodi to the wonderful store we got him from - he visited his old girlfriends and got a GIANT cookie to take home. And a squeaky toy of course! Happy Birthday Kodi!

Dear Zoe

Last night we had to put our dear Zoe down to sleep. There was nothing we could do to help him, he was in so much pain. I felt so bad for him, my heart just aches. I miss him so much, he was part of our family. It seems so surreal today - did that really happen?

I have never seen my husband so torn and upset, Zoe was his baby for sure. Here is a little story about Zoe and how he became apart of us.

Zoe - I love you little guy and we miss you already! Jacob is searching all over the house for you, I can tell he is sad too. I'm so sorry we couldn't help you - you were only 3! I pray that you are resting peacefully now. Dr Shwab was so kind and did everything he could, he gave us your paw prints set in clay and we will cherish it and every memory of you always. I'm so so so sorry Zoe. WE LOVE YOU!

Kodi versus Parka

Happy Monday! It is snowing like crazy here. Its snowing so hard and its so windy that it looks like its snowing upwards! Not sure how much we'll end up with but it may be around 6" or more.

So anyway, on Saturday we had a little bonfire out back & I was getting Kodi all bundled up to go outside {he just got groomed so he doesn't have much hair} and when I turned around Kodi was attacking his parka! I grabbed my camera....you will have to turn your speakers way up to hear him, its too cute!

Kodi won.

Me and Kodi Saturday night after the bonfire

Kodi after getting groomed on Thursday
If I get brave I will venture out and take some purtty photos of the snow!...

This is my cause

You're probably going to read this and think I'm nuts or roll your eyes and label me as a crazy PETA person but I don't care. I want to write about this because I feel strongly about it and I want to put it out there. Everyone has a cause whether it be a cure for cancer, preventing premature birth or AIDS research. This is my cause...

I feed my puppy all natural, organic food that does not practice cruelty and testing on animals. My husband hates this because its very expensive, we have to drive to a special store to buy it and he just thinks its a waste of time and money. Its not 'practical". And we get into an argument every time we run out of food and have to buy it.

Now a days people treat their pets as children. And even in these tough economic times, the pet industry has not taken a hit, they are actually on the rise. What I don't understand is how a pet owner can spoil their pet, treat them like part of the family and NOT care about what food they eat. How can you turn a blind eye to what is happening in puppy food plants to save yourself a few bucks? I just think that if you love your animal so much you should do a little research into what you are feeding them. Do you know you could be feeding your pet other animal ingredients, harmful additives and chemicals. And the company could be testing their toxins on cats and dogs?

After pleading my case with my husband he decided to research it; he found out the the cheaper brand from the grocery store that he wanted to feed our puppy does do testing on animals. We agreed to stay with an all natural, organic diet for our puppy! Yay! However we are going to research a little more to find a less expensive brand. I love a good comprimise :)

If you want be a responsible pet owner you can google Peta's Do and Don't pet food list. It will outline everything for you so that you can find the right food for you pet...

A Little Animal Lovin

If you read my blog often enough, you know that Hubs an I just adore and love all animals. We have two cats {Zoe and Jacob}, a puppy {Kodi} and a fish {Pedro}. Here is a short video that I shot that shows a little bit of their personalities...

*I hope that you could see the video alright, it shows up fine on my computer but after uploading it blogger seems to have made it much darker than it is.

Let me tell you the story of our first child *er*cat* Zoe...

September 11th 2005 I came home to my apartment that I shared with my bf. I walked in the door and saw bf with a gleaming smile on his face. All of the sudden I see this cute little fur ball come hopping out from behind the couch. I dropped my bags and ran over to see this soft little kitten barely old enough to leave its mother. I look up at bf to see him still gleaming and sweating a bit. After a few more seconds I realize that there is a ribbon tied around the kittens neck with an engagement ring around it. And that is how bf proposed and became hubs.

I know its a sweet story. And you might gather from that story that the kitten (whom hubs had already named Zoe) would be my cat. You would think that the kitten and I would share a special bond and be best friends. Well let me tell you...it is not so...Zoe is not fond of me at all. He is hubs cat through and through. If I pet him he gets up and moves. If I look at him, he looks the other way. And you can see what filming him does...

Although I must admit he is quite the character and so gosh darn adorable...

Snow Day

Its been a while since I posted last, I haven't been feeling well so I kinda just put blogging to the side so there is lots to catch up on. Nothing too exciting though...

Friday night was nice, Hubs took me out to dinner for a little date night which was fun. The night ended early though because we were both so tired. Between Wednesday and Thursday we each got about 5 hours sleep, so by 8pm we were sound asleep!
Saturday was girls night for me! I traveled to Drexel Hill to meet up with some friends from work and we spent the night out having a good time. But then Sunday morning I woke up with hives and a cold and I still had to drive an hour to get back home. By mid day the rash was gone and I thought it would be best to get out of the house. So hubs and I went out to Pier 1 for some shopping therapy :) We found a huge area rug originally $326.00 on sale for $70.00, plus I had a gift card...so we snatched it up!

Of course now I need new throw pillows to go with the rug ; )

Anyway, three days later I am still trying to fight this miserable cold. We got about three to four inches of snow last night and now its sleeting so I decided it would be best to stay inside and rest up. So for today its just me a cup of coffee, box of tissues, vicks vapor rub and the dog...

You're so Vain

My cat Jacob is very intelligent. He knows how to open my dresser drawers and get what he wants out. He can us his claws to open my jewelry box to get his favorite necklace of mine. He can even open bi-fold doors. Every day this cat does something new to amaze me. Tonight as I was getting ready for bed I realized that Jacob is a little vain. He was sitting and staring at himself in the bathroom mirror. And he is smart enough to know it is a reflection because he poses his head at different angles. Most cats freak out when they see a mirror because they think its another cat. This is not the first time we have caught him doing this...

You have to admit...he is pretty handsome

Some Photos

Here are some photos that I took this weekend of my favorite cat Jacob. He is such a sweet cat and I think he just looks so adorable in these photos. There are also some of my puppy Kodi. He is hard to photograph because he is black, so normally all you see is his glaring eyes.

Kodi

This weekend we picked up the cutest puppy at the pet store. We got a 4 month old Pomeranian puppy. I think he looks like a little black bear, so we named him Kodi (as in Kodiak bear). The funny thing is that I never liked Pom's...I thought they were snippy and mean and barked too much. But Kodi is the opposite. He is so sweet, he gets along well with children and other dogs, big or small. He doesn't bark at people either (unless left alone in his crate...he is still getting used to that). I am so happy because his demeanor is relaxed and happy. He doesn't chase the cats either. We are have him on a schedule...eat, play, outside for potty and then nap. It's working really well, he has had few accidents and the ones he did have were our fault because we should have taken him out sooner. We decided not to punish him when he has an accident but instead reward him when he goes outside (so far so good)!...He loves those treats.

Take a look at the pictures I posted a few days ago...he will melt your heart! You can see why we couldnt pass him up.
